About the Author

Dr. Melville Q. Wyche, Jr., is a trailblazer in the field of anesthesiology. A graduate of Hampton University (Hampton, VA) and Meharry Medical College (Nashville, TN), Dr. Wyche began his career with the U.S. Army, where he ultimately became chief of Anesthesia and Operating Room at the United States Army Hospital in Camp Zama, Japan.

He was the first Black accepted into the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Pennsylvania and, later, its first Black faculty member. He is also a former professor and chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at Howard University, among many other accomplishments.
